The Pass Lane
Learn to drive with confidence

About The Pass Lane Driving School in Ramsgate

The Pass Lane is a fresh new driving school operating in the Thanet area, based in Ramsgate but covering other nearby towns such as Margate, Broadstairs, Sandwich, Herne Bay, etc. If you live further afield please contact us and we may be able to arrange longer lessons. A full list of locations is showed below.

We provide driving instruction and tuition in a manually geared car (Sadly we are unable to offer lessons in an automatic car) in a friendly and relaxed environment to persons of all ages and abilities, at competitive prices.

Code of Practice

We take our standards of customer service very seriously, so on your lessons you'll be given our undivided attention, just you, and the instructor. We won't use your lesson time to drop other students off, or interrupt your lesson to answer the phone. We'll also pick you up and drop you off from home, work, school or college.

All lessons will last a minimum of one hour, with longer lessons available. Research has shown that two hours of tuition per week is the optimum amount for a first-time pass.

The Pass Lane instructors will behave in a professional manner at all times, and will try to avoid physical contact with a client except in an emergency or in the normal course of greeting.

We will advise you on when to apply for your theory and practical driving tests, taking current waiting times into consideration. We will ensure that you have all the right materials, preparation and paperwork for these tests.

Any monies paid in advance for lessons or test fees will be safeguarded and accounted for. If a lesson needs to be cancelled, we will aim to give you at least 24 hours notice. We reserve the right to refuse tuition but will not act in any way which contravenes legislation on discrimination.

In addition to the above, The Pass Lane Driving School is committed to providing instruction complying with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) code of practice, and to the DSA's recommended syllabus.

Your first lesson

At your first lesson, you will need to provide proof that you hold a provisional driving licence. You will also be asked to read a standard car numberplate from the statutory distance of 20.5 metres.

Our Instructor's Car

You will learn to drive in our brand new 59-plate manual-geared Toyota Aygo 'Blue', complete with HE-MAN dual controls, air conditioning (for the summer!), dual airbags, ABS anti-lock brakes, and a 4-star safety rating. Update 4/2/2010: We have confirmed that our 2010 Toyota is unaffected by any of the issues being reported in the national press.

Cancellation Fees

If a lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of when it is to take place, students will be charged 50% of the lesson price or 25% if the lesson is rebooked for a time within 72 hours of the original lesson.

If the instructor arrives at a lesson and the student is a no-show, the student will be charged 75% of the lesson price.

Payment of these fees will be required before further tuition is undertaken.

Test Day Fees

Tests may be carried out in Herne Bay, Canterbury or Folkestone and pupils will be collected 1 hour before the time of their test (unless requested otherwise).

If tests are taken in Folkestone students will need to book a 3 hour lesson at the usual cost of £50 to allow for the extra travelling time to and from the test location.

For tests taken in Herne Bay or Canterbury a 2 hour lesson is usually enough and so this would be charged at the usual price of £35. However, if the time elapsed between time of pick up and drop off is greater than 2.5 hours, an extra charge of £10 will be made.
